Biography
Nizar Zein is an integral part of Mubadala Health. In his role, he leads more than 400 physicians across 16 institutes, supporting their wellbeing and the continuous improvement of the care they offer patients. Dr. Zein is passionate about quality, empathy and compassionate care as well as the education of those who serve. Before his appointment as Chief of Staff, he was Chairman and Medical Director of Global Patient Services at Cleveland Clinic, leading a multidisciplinary and multinational team of caregivers that ensured all international patients receive high quality, seamless care. Dr. Zein’s research interests focus on improving disease and treatment outcomes in patients with Hepatitis C before and after liver transplantation. He has authored over 200 publications, and has been the Principal Investigator of several large clinical trials. He holds several patents and established a research group at Cleveland Clinic focused on the 3D printing of solid organs. Elected to Cleveland Clinic’s Board of Governors in 2015, he has sat on Cleveland Clinic’s Board of Directors as a representative of the Board of Governors since 2017. Dr. Zein received several awards, including the American Liver Foundation Scholar Award, the Cleveland Clinic Innovator Award and the Distinguished Faculty Award for Research Mentorship. He was recognized as ‘Teacher of the Year’ by the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine Teacher for his commitment to the education and mentorship of young physicians.
