Bernadette Haase BSc MSc

Biography

Following her education at Erasmus University at Rotterdam with focus on Healthcare Management, Bernadette Haase has developed a long experience in the field of organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Starting at the international organ exchange organisation Eurotransplant in Leiden as General Manager she was responsible for the establishment of a new internal organisation whilst leading various (inter)national projects in the field of transplantation.
In 1997 she was appointed Director of then recently founded Dutch Transplantation Foundation as the Competent Authority for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation in the Netherlands. In this capacity she created and established a robust and sustainable ‘national organisation’ in donation and transplantation, with ultmate responsibility of the Dutch deceased donation and procurement programme including the allocation of organs and tissues. In addition, with Academic centres she developed the national living donor cross-over programme, implemented a national follow up registry for recipient and donors and supported public campaigns in organ donation. More recently, she facilitated machine perfusion on a national level whilst arranging reimbursement of preservation cost from healthcare providers. On an international level Bernadette Haase has been an active member of the Competent Authority Experts advising the European Commission, the Chair of the CD-P-TO expert group of the Council of Europe, a Council Member of ESOT and member of the COST-living donor project.
To date, Bernadette Haase is immediate Past Director of the Dutch Transplant Foundation, a Non-Excecutive Chair of the Board of two Healthcare Organisations in the Netherlands and Board Member of the Quality in Organ Donation and Transplantation Programme in the UK.
