Which kind of visa do I need to travel to Egypt?

To travel to Egypt for tourism, foreigners need a tourist visa. Passport holders from the countries listed above can get a tourist visa for Egypt online. The process is 100% online: applicants fill out an electronic form and receive the approved e-Visa by email.

Travelers from e-Visa eligible countries can also get a visa on arrival in Egypt. However, only single-entry visas are available on arrival, multiple-entry visas must be obtained online. Tourists are advised to apply online in advance to avoid delays at the border.

Visitors who are not eligible for the Egypt e-Visa need to obtain a visa in advance through the diplomatic mission. Embassy visas can take several weeks to process.

Foreigners visiting Egypt for non-tourism purposes, such as to work or study, must contact the nearest embassy to require the relevant visa.

Difference between Egypt e-Visa and Visa on Arrival

The main difference between the tourist visa on arrival and the electronic visa is that e-Visa applicants obtain the permit online, in advance. Travelers who opt for the visa on arrival wait until they arrive in Egypt to apply.

For greater peace of mind, many tourists prefer to arrange their visa before travelling. Foreigners are not guaranteed a visa on arrival.

It is also a convenient choice given that the application can be completed and submitted from home, rather than at the airport.

Both the e-Visa and the visa on arrival allow the holder to stay in Egypt for up to 30 days. Single and multiple-entry online visas are available. Only single-entry visas are issued on arrival.

One other difference is that, as mentioned above, the visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash. Electronic visa applicants pay securely online by card.

What is the Egypt Online Visa? (e-Visa)

The Egypt Online Visa, or Egypt e-Visa, is an official electronic travel authorization system for citizens of eligible countries wishing to travel to Egypt for tourism. An e-Visa for Egypt can be obtained through an online application without the need to visit the embassy.

The Egypt e-Visa simplifies the visa application process. It is quicker and easier to apply for travel authorization using the online system.

The official e-Visa for Egypt is a single or multiple-entry visa. Single and multiple-entry e-Visas for Egypt are available. Both grant stays of up to 30 consecutive days in Egypt.

To apply for an Egypt Visa the applicant will need to complete the online Egypt visa application so that he/she may receive the approved e-Visa via email.

2) Applying for an Egypt visa on arrival

Foreign nationals who are eligible for the e-Visa can also get a visa on arrival in Egypt. However, the e-Visa is the most convenient option for overseas tourists.

The Egypt visa on arrival has been available for a long time. It is possible to obtain one at the Egyptian border. Eligible citizens queue, apply for, process, and pay for the visa on arrival.

Only single-entry Egypt visas are available on arrival. Travelers who require a multiple-entry visa should apply online

*Please note:

If you do not possess a passport issued by one of the above countries, you will not be able to apply for an Egypt visa on arrival.

Where can you get an Egypt visa on arrival?

You can apply for an Egyptian visa on arrival at border control when arriving in Egypt. It is currently not advised that travelers cross land borders or checkpoints, as there is not always up-to-date information concerning which checkpoints and border crossings are open or issue a visa on arrival.

Passengers with an e-Visa can head straight to border control at the airport.
